Author Visit-- Troy Cummings -- 2/27 and 2/28
Our author this year is Troy Cummings. Troy has written and illustrated more than thirty children’s books, including The Notebook of Doom series, The Binder of Doom series, Can I be Your Dog? and The Eensy Weensy Spider Freaks Out (Big Time!). He has also illustrated books by other authors. Order forms went home if you would like to purchase one of his books. |
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Together, our class read a letter written by MLK from jail in Birmingham, AL (click for link) in 1963. We had a thoughtful discussion around the content of the letter and the way that MLK is able to advocate and persuade effectively through his writing.
Our next ELA unit theme is Argument and Advocacy.

Science We have been examining patterns observable on earth (such as sunrise/sunset times and constellations) that help us to understand earth's movement throughout the year. One resource we've explored is StarAtlas. In addition to exploring many constellations, we found the location and altitude of Polaris, the North Star, in several cities around the northern hemisphere. We also examined an online model that very effectively gives a sense of the vast scale of our solar system-- particularly how incredibly far apart the planets are.
