It was wonderful to meet so many family members at Open House last night.
I was able to meet and talk with many of you. If I missed you, or if you have any questions, feel free to reach out. I have time before or after school for a chat on the phone or in person.
The best way to reach me is by email: [email protected]
My experience at Ellicott this year with the students and community has been overwhelmingly positive. Thank you for being so welcoming and supportive!
Homework
This will be our homework routine:
Students will write their assignments daily in their homework agendas. Nightly, students are expected to read 20+ minutes and jot a thought about what they read. Other assignments will come home as the year progresses, these will also be listed on the agenda. Unfinished classwork may also be sent home to complete and return.
Students will be expected to get their agendas initialed by an adult at home. This is their responsibility, so please don't remind them to do it. :)
I will also be generating a list of additional learning opportunities for students and families that want to practice more at home. Look for this in a few weeks.
Homework agendas will be collected on MONDAYS (or Tuesday if there was a holiday)
Appreciations
One important item that I would like to add about our classroom is the importance of Appreciations. Each day, our class spends a few minutes sharing things that we appreciate about each other using our Appreciation Wall. This year, we project the wall on the SmartBoard. Students and adults in the room take turns sharing with the class: "I'd like to appreciate ___(Name)________ for ____(action)__________. I'd like to put them on ___(character trait)________." Over the week, generally, each student has had a chance to share and be appreciated. This is one of the ways that we make that each student knows that they are valued and recognized.
Thanks again!
